Seruku Newsroom

Have you seen a mention of Seruku somewhere recently? Send us a note and we'll include it here.

June 10, 2004. It's been a huge month in terms of mentions on the internet and in terms of total downloads (we're a bit awestruck by the increase in traffic). Version 1.1 of Seruku ToolbarTM, which we released in the middle of May, really struck a chord with a lot of people. Among them:

By the way, I just used Seruku to find the NYT article. I knew I had read it, but didn't remember where or when - and I knew I hadn't bookmarked it. So I put in "Google Phd research" into the search bar and got exactly what I was looking for. Beautiful.

  • Search Engine Lowdown. They like Seruku ToolbarTM but asked about adware.

A lot of programs which are available over the internet come with surprises: programs which display pop-up ads or which gather information on you and report it back to third parties. Not to worry, though. We don't install "adware", "spyware," or anything other than a really useful toolbar that helps you find web pages you've already seen.

  • Privacy Marketing Review chimed in. Alexander Reppel is enthusiastic about Seruku ToolbarTM. We love what he had to say

First of all, let me say that I am really excited about your product and hope that many people will feel the same about it.

and

It's small developers like Seruku that we all depend upon when it comes to innovation in software.

May 20, 2004. The Resource Shelf article continues to echo across the internet. Both the Stark County Law Library and a Canadian Chemistry Engineering Corporate Librarian like Seruku ToolbarTM.

May 19 , 2004. Resource Shelf, the internet's premier portal for librarians and information professionals, names Seruku ToolbarTM its resource of the week.

The article starts out with

This week we have another example of innovative and useful work coming from small companies in the search and info retrieval space. Say hello to Seruku.

talks about how Seruku helps realize the promise of the web, and concludes:

Kudos to Grosso for not only developing this product (it's been needed for a long time), but also for making it so easy to use.

Aside from the fact that we're tremendously flattered to even be noticed by Resource Shelf, the article is being read (and commented on) by other people around the web. For example, Greg from Geeking with Greg, says:

ResourceShelf discusses a new toolbar application called Seruku. "Seruku is a toolbar-based application that ... makes a copy (called a snapshot) of every html web page you've viewed in your browser, stores it locally, indexes the content and then, when needed, allows you to keyword search the full text of this material."

My first thought was that this is silly, basically reimplementing the browser history and cache with a search layered on top. But then I realized that this really could be useful. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to do a Google search that was limited to web pages you have seen before?

"Really could be useful"-- exactly our goal.

May 17 , 2004. Seruku ToolbarTM is the Microsoft / WUGNET Shareware Pick of the Week.

This is exciting. The Shareware Pick of the Week is special. To quote from the announcement:

Each week Microsoft and WUGNET feature a Windows shareware application demonstrating the very highest programming standards possible today. Each application selected for this award is exhaustively reviewed under all operating situations and of the applications submitted...less than two percent make the cut. It is our intent to showcase only the very "best-of-the-best" applications.

Later on, they say that Seruku ToolbarTM is

A "must have" recording utility for anyone who needs a “memory jogger”

The only thing we'd add is that it's pretty darn useful for other people too.

May 12 , 2004. Seruku ToolbarTM is the product of the week at WinXPNews.

We're thrilled. Chris Spera is quoted in the article saying that Seruku ToolbarTM is "one of the most valuable IE add-ons I have ever used."

November 18, 2003. Joel on Software Discussion Thread Mentions Seruku ToolbarTM

Joel on Software is one of the internet's most widely read software-design forums. It was started by Joel Spolsky (who designed Visual Basic for Applications) and consists of articles by Joel along with followup discussions. In response to the posted question

Do you organize web pages? I keep too many links to web pages, and I want an easy way to organize them.
